3 City Funded Grants For Carbondale Home Buyers
Curb Appeal Grant
With spring just around the corner, this grant is perfect for current home owners who want to add cosmetic appeal to their neighborhood. The Curb Appeal Grant helps improve curb appeal. From new paint jobs on siding, power-washing or landscaping projects, the city will reimburse $500 - $3,000 to fund your project. I suggest keeping your receipts in a neat accordion folder or an organized binder. Take pictures of your receipts and keep record of the development.
Downpayment Assistance Grant -
Receive up to $3,000 as a reimbursement after closing with the downpayment assistance grant. As a requirement of the program, the homeowner is required to record a restrictive covenant on the property, which will require the home to remain owner-occupied for five years. If the home owner decides to sell the property within five years, the down payment assistance will be recaptured at a prorated rate of 1/60th of the original amount for each month during the five years. In other words, if you decide to sell your home before the five years is up, you’re going to owe the city some money. But if you plan on staying in Carbondale for a good time, this assistance program is advantageous and worth the while. The city wants people to call Carbondale “home” and have families plant their flags here to live and grow.
Rental Conversion Grant
This $5,000 grant is for Carbondale home buyers who purchase a home that was renter occupied and is being converted into a single-family home. If you are unsure if a home you’re interested in is a rental conversion property, contact me & I will check. The grant funding is reimbursed after closing. Once you bought the home, you will complete your application & take your closing documents to the city. The purpose of this grant is to stimulate and encourage the conversion of single-family houses registered rentals to owner-occupied homes.
